GTN: TheSky Import Instructions

TheSky Import Instructions

The cells below give examples of tables of the GTN Blazars and Polars. They are in the correct format for import to TheSky (from Software Bisque). To import the objects into TheSky follow these outlined steps.

1. Select the desired text in the cell

  • copy, and paste it into a file named "GTN Polars .txt" or "GTN Blazars .txt".
  • For Microsoft 2000 / XP save the file in "C:\Program Files\Software Bisque\TheSky\Auxiliary Files".
  • If you do not have write permissions to this folder, save the file in "C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\My Documents\TheSky Custom Databases".

2. Open TheSky. Select from the menu bar Data > Import.

3. Under the Text File section of the Import Dialog Box click the Browse button. Using the file explorer locate and select the "GTN Blazars.txt" or the "GTN Polars.txt" file.

4. Under the Object Type drop down menu select Variable Star for the polars or Galaxy for the blazars.

5. Select the Define Fields button.

6. Highlight the columns for a given field by clicking and dragging the mouse, then click the corresponding button on the upper portion of the dialog box. The first row of the ASCII file indicates the name of the column of data the second row indicates which of the availableRequired, Optional, or User Defined Fields that column corresponds to.

7. Once you have mapped out the appropriate fields click Ok.

8. Click Compile. When asked to Add to Auto Load Database click Yes. Close the Import dialog box by clicking on Ok.

You can now search for GTN Objects from TheSky's find dialog box by going to the menu item Edit > Find (keyboard shortcut: F).
