Swift will search for and investigate gamma-ray bursts while focusing on the afterglow of these explosions. Swift will be able to determine precise positions for bursts at the arcminute level in a matter of seconds. Swift also has a UV-optical telescope for determining burst positions at the arcsecond level and for measuring burst and afterglow lightcurves. Swift is expected to detect and fully documentat least one burst a week.
