Active galaxies differ from normal galaxies in a number of ways. These are outlined in the pages linked here. |
All large galaxies seem to have supermassive black holes in their cores, but in active galaxies an accretion disk feeds material into the black hole while streaming matter and radiation outward. There are many types of active galaxies, and they appear differently to observers who are viewing them at different orientations and/or at different energies. The links below describe some of the properties of active galaxies.
